The Momentum Needs to be Rediscovered
Loss of momentum certainly, but it is just that, nothing more, don`t panic. Victory tonight against Notts County will see that lead increase to six points before Saturday`s fixtures and put pressure on surrounding teams to pick up points. Victory tonight is hardly straight forward though, with County having won their last three and in good form. However getting on track is vital as our fixtures in the New Year are favourable in comparison to our other promotion rivals so being top at the half way point could be a real indicator as to what the New Year has in store for Seagulls fans.
Top or not top, going into January Poyet has admitted that strengthening the squad is vital if we are to maintain our position within the promotion chasing teams. Lua Lua`s ankle break has left us desperately short of creativity, with Plymouth`s Craig Noone seemingly top of Poyet`s list to Santa. A striker to compete with our misfiring front line also looks like a distinct possibility with Nathan Ellington the most recent one to be linked. Then there is this 'special player` who as yet, remains nameless. Those who claim to be 'in the know` are sworn to secrecy and justify their elusiveness with the line of "if we get him promotion is guaranteed." All I can add is that he must be special, as it takes a lot to make any kind of Brighton fan optimistic of promotion.
Being in the play offs coming into January will be a wonderful lure for any prospective new signings, especially with a brand spanking new stadium just around the corner. The first thing on the agenda though is to beat Notts County, everything will become a lot more approachable from there on in.
