A bright start saw Brighton threatening with March (17), who had already gone close, opening the scoring early on but this lead was cancelled out just four-minutes later as Maghoma's effort was saved, but not to any degree of certainty by Stockdale with for Toral (21) heading Birmingham level.

Kuszczak saw his blushes spared against his former side when the Birmingham 'keeper lost the ball but the referee saw an earlier foul and he got away with it with the Blues almost taking a lead in first half injury-time with Toral going close again.

March turned provider minutes into the second half when Zamora (47) marked his first start at home for Brighton in 12-years with another goal, his fourth in seven-matches, as he was left with a simple finish to score what proved to be the winner.

Wilson, signed on loan from Man United on deadline day, came on for Zamora and almost marked his debut from the bench with a goal but his effort came off the post as he ran through with the points secured when Stockdale made a fine save to Davis in injury-time.
