Brighton 1-0 Wigan (Report)
4/11/14 - 7.45pm
A first win in 12 games dating back to August 23rd, courtesy of a first minute winner, was secured by Brighton on Tuesday against Wigan.
The Amex was soon buzzing after the early goal, which proved enough to give us a 1-0 win.
Elliott Bennett's impact upon his return to Albion in a loan capacity from Norwich was immediate with his pass finding Sam Baldock who crossed low for Gary Gardner to drive home his first goal for us since signing on loan from Aston Villa.
What a dream start, the problem was we knew we still had 89 minutes to play!
A second goal would have really calmed the nerves and eased the tension and this nearly came when Kaz LuaLua set up another loanee, Liverpool's Joao Teixeira, but his effort came back off the crossbar.
Roger Espinoza crossed for Martyn Waghorn to have Wigan's first real effort but his header wasn't one that troubled Albion's league debutant Christian Walton in goal, with Waghorn again off target with a later shot.
Half chances came and went for both sides, but little difficulty was caused for Walton or Wigan's former England goalkeeper Scott Carson, who did have to be on his guard to keep out LuaLua's effort after the break.
Walton was called into action by Waghorn, getting down low to an effort with the striker denied once more by the England U18 international who also parried away a goalbound Adam Forshaw effort between the two.
There wasn't too much threat, on the whole, from Wigan who now have only one win in 11 themselves.
A minor concern was a late knock to Bennet, who had to go off with new Nottingham Forest loanee Greg Halford, literally confirmed ahead of kick off, coming on for his debut.
