Barnsley 2-1 Brighton

Albion concluded a frustrating week on the road with another narrow defeat at lowly Barnsley.

Jason Scotland opened the scoring for the hosts, pouncing on a defensive lapse from the Seagulls' defence, but the Seagulls rallied back and eventually responded through Leo Ulloa. Their joy was shortlived, however, as Chris Dagnall almost immediately restored the Tykes lead from the spot.

Poyet's men were then handed a life-line, with the ref awarding another penalty for a push on Inigo Calderon - but Ulloa was denied his second as Luke Steele pulled off a fine stop to his right. And it was to be a costly miss as the hosts held on for a vital victory in their fight for survival.

Following on the theme from Bolton, Poyet's men created ample opportunities to have won the game, but again wastefulness in front of goal was their undoing in this Championship clash. Will Buckley had a golden chance early on, whilst Dean Hammond, David Lopez and Kazenga LuaLua also spurned efforts.

Albion will need to pick themselves up and try to re-gain the momentum that put them in the play-off race to begin with, as arch-rivals Crystal Palace visit the Amex on Sunday in another eagerly-anticipated match-up.
