Brighton 2-0 Bristol City

Albion eased past Bristol City to round off an unbeaten November and gain ground on their fellow promotion chasers.

First half goals from Andrea Orlandi and Dean Hammond all but killed off the contest as early as 26 minutes in, and - a couple of scares aside - the remaining hour was a comfortable, if uneventful stroll for the Seagulls who looked to be conserving energy for the weekend.

Poyet rang the changes up-front, as Will Hoskins and Stephen Dobbie came in for the recently profligate pair of Craig Mackail-Smith and Ashley Barnes. However, it was two midfielders who gave the hosts a nice early cusion by notching their first goals of the campaign.

Having launched straight onto the front foot, with plenty of joy coming down the right, it only took 6 minutes for Albion to find the opener. Will Buckley drew a foul just outside the box, and after Orlandi played a quick short free-kick, Liam Bridcutt whipped the ball into a dangerous area where Hammond shrugged off his marker to head home his first goal since his return to the club.

Poyet's men were finding plenty of space in behind, mostly through the pacey Buckley, and they duly extended their lead on 26 minutes. Once again Orlandi stepped up to take a free-kick, and his curled cross ended up trickling straight into the centre of the goal, courtesy of a mix-up between City keeper Tom Heaton and one of his defenders.

The sparkling Seagulls looked like they might threaten to run riot by this point, as Dobbie lashed Buckley's low cross just over the bar, before another Buckley centre just evaded the on-rushing Hoskins. It wasn't all one-way traffic as half-time approached, however, as City enjoyed a short spell of pressure.

First Stephen Pearson's fierce strike struck the cross-bar, whilst moments later Neil Danns found space in the Albion box, but his effort was cleared off the line by the back-peddling Gordon Greer. No such danger for the Seagulls in the second half, as Orlandi and Hoskins squandered further chances, with the match petering out into a comfortable victory.
