Brighton Stopper - We Got What We Deserved

Brighton Stopper - We Got What We Deserved

Australian international goalkeeper Mathew Ryan has said Brighton can have no complaints after defeat to Everton at the weekend.

Travelling to Goodison Park for the tie on Saturday, Brighton headed back with a two nil defeat and speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media post game, the goalkeeper spoke of his disappointment at the goals conceded but clearly Brighton didn't show the same levels of performance as we had in recent matches.

'We got what we deserved at the end of the day. Our levels weren`t up to standard from what they were in previous weeks. If you`re not up to those levels then days like this happen. Hopefully it`s a lesson we can learn from quickly. For the first goal, it`s a cardinal sin if you`re allowing someone so easily to come in on his right foot into the centre of the pitch.'

Ryan added.

'If you allowing a team to come into your back third or their final third, you`re asking for trouble. We allowed them to dictate the play too much and we always felt on the back foot.'

With Ryan saving Wayne Rooney's effort from the penalty spot, he admitted that had brought little joy given the way the overall game went on the afternoon.

'It was pretty late in the game as the result was already done and dusted, but who knows what influence goal difference could have further down the line? In a situation like that it`s good to come out on top against someone who`s had a fantastic career. It will be a memory that I cherish, but across the board we weren`t good enough in the game for long enough period.'

With a trip to Old Trafford next up to face Manchester United, he knew it was important we bounced back as the next international break looms.

'We need to pick ourselves up from the position we`re in because we`ve been on a good roll aside from today. That will be the challenge and thankfully we`ve got another game coming up next weekend. Then we`ll come back feeling fresh after the international break and go again to do what`s need to keep our club safe for next season.'
