Brighton Duo - We're Improving

Brighton Duo - We're Improving

Brighton goalkeeper Maty Ryan and centre half Shane Duffy have been reflecting on further defensive improvements for the side as of late.

With the November international break now with us, we go into the lull in good spirits following victory over Swansea City last weekend and of course boosting those spirits was keeping a clean sheet in the game.

Speaking to the Official Site Ryan remained insistent that whilst we were proving we had learned lessons from previous games, each game continues to be a learning curve.

'It happened very quickly, I noticed the touch had got a little bit away from Abraham and saw an opportunity to close the space and get in his face quickly. Football is a tough game sometimes, and if that had of gone in, it would have been another lesson for us.'

Comparing our performances to the last international window, he went on to say.

'We`ve had our fair share of lessons since the last international break, with the Everton and Southampton games at home - these little details are the difference in not winning games. We didn`t get punished, but it`s another lesson we need to learn from going forward, as we head to the Amex after the international break.'

Having kept the clean sheet against Swansea City it meant back to back clean sheets away from home and that was a clear delight for the Australian stopper.

'All week we`d been preparing for Swansea, because it was a massive game, and it was great to keep our record going on the road. We need to make our home stadium a fortress, but picking up points away from home is always going to be an added bonus. The gaffer challenges us each week to be competitive in every game, and I still believe that`s been the case with every game this season. It was a fantastic result [v Swansea] and we can take that into the international break. Hopefully we can get back-to-back wins against Stoke when we come back.'

As for Duffy, before heading off on international duty he focused in on his growing partnership with Lewis Dunk at the heart of the defence.

'Lewis is great to play alongside, and he brings the best out of whoever he plays with, so credit to him. It`s just clicking between us. I don`t think strikers are enjoying playing against us. It`s going well but we can`t get too ahead of ourselves, we`ve only played 11 games in the top league.'

Duffy also backed Duck's chances for an England call up sooner rather than later.

'I was surprised that he didn`t get called up to the squad. He`s been performing well enough to be involved, but his time will come. If he keeps performing the way he is, I believe it`s only a matter of time.'
