Brown On Lone Arsenal Role

Brown On Lone Arsenal Role

Makeshift striker Izzy Brown has spoken about his more advanced role in Brighton defeat to Arsenal at the weekend.

The on loan Chelsea youngster took the lone striker role for the game at the Emirates Stadium, and although he admitted it was difficult given the quality of the opposition, he felt his own performance hadn't been too bad - given how long it's been since he last played that far forward.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game, Brown also spoke about how he hopes injuries are behind him following his enforced absence.

'It was difficult for me against really good defenders, because I haven't played in the number nine position for many years - it's a new challenge and I had to get used to it quickly. I tried my best, but when you're against a tough team and don't have the ball much, you have to try to keep it and link the play. That's all I could do throughout the game - it was hard to get the ball and spin in behind because we had so much pressure on us. I thought I did okay though.'

He added.

'The injury wasn't an ideal situation, but that's football. There are ups and downs and I'm happy now, I just need to gain 100-per-cent fitness and I'll be fine. I'm still doing extra work after training to get to where I was before, but I'm getting closer and closer to full fitness.'

With the 20 year old back in the team, he knew Brighton had to take the positives from the match as we move forward.

'We were on top in the last 10 minutes. The team played well, we just need to have more confidence in each other and believe in each other, then we'll be fine. We're not in the relegation zone, so it's a good start. We picked up points at home and that's important.'

He ended by explaining.

'The training here is intense and tough - the gaffer likes us to run a lot so we'll be doing a lot of that during the international break. If we keep doing it every day, I'll be fitter than I was before. Playing at great stadia like the Emirates is an amazing experience for a 20-year-old; you just want to be playing week in, week out in the Premier League. It's an amazing experience and one I want more of.'
