Performances Are A Positive
Manager Chris Hughton has said that Brighton's overall performance levels so far this season in the Premier League continue to give him hope we will soon climb the table.
With a two nil defeat to Arsenal in the most recent match as we now go into the October international break, Hughton looked back on recent games and he felt that had results matched our performances, we would be slightly higher in the top flight table.
Speaking to the Official Site this week, Hughton explained.
'I don't think you're ever satisfied with the league position, because there were certainly a couple of games where we could have got more. Like at Bournemouth, we were 1-0 up - and even if you come out of there with a draw, it's healthier than losing the game. We could have had slightly more than seven points but we're a new team coming into this division and we've played Arsenal and Man City.'
Hughton went on to say.
'There's not a sense of satisfaction at this moment because when you have competitive players, you don't like losing. But there's more positives to come from the game than negatives. Away from home is very difficult, particularly with the quality Arsenal have.'
Looking back on Arsenal, Hughton went on to explain his thinking behind bringing in Gaetan Bong for the game and he also had praise for Jose Izquierdo on his first start following his arrival over the summer.
'I decided to go with Gaetan because he's been training very well and probably if you look at him and Markus Suttner - they're different types of players. With Izquierdo, I knew we would have to be bright on the counter, and he's got very good pace on the counter attack. Izquierdo is a bit short because he hasn't played, but then how does he get up to speed? You've got to pick the right games to play him in. I thought there were good aspects of his game where he can break very quickly. He'll certainly get better. It's a tough game to come in to, if you're one of the wide players.'
