Steve Sidwell Undergoes Back Surgery

Steve Sidwell Undergoes Back Surgery

Brighton have confirmed that midfielder Steve Sidwell has undergone minor surgery on his back this week.

The experienced 34 year old midfielder has had a recurring back injury and the minor surgery should hopefully alleviate it for him. A consequence is he's out of this weekend's visit by West Bromwich Albion, but having undergone the surgery earlier in the week he's now on a rehabilitation programme before he returns to full training.

It's not expected that he will be out for too long at all and manager Chris Hughton told the Official Site.

'It's a minor procedure and it has been successful. In terms of a recovery period, that will become clearer in due course, but we don't expect Steve to be absent for a prolonged period.'

Having started 26 Championship games last season as we won promotion to the Premier League, Sidwell hasn't yet featured for us this campaign but when he's fit he'll be looking to add to his appearance total once more.
