Stephens Delighted With New Brighton Deal

Stephens Delighted With New Brighton Deal

On Tuesday afternoon midfielder Dale Stephens signed a new four year deal at Brighton and the Amex Stadium.

The 27 year old was a key member of our promotion winning side but obviously there were issues over a transfer previously.

With a four year deal signed hopefully that's all in the background now and he, like his colleagues, can look forward to Premier League football in 2017/18.

Speaking to the Official Site manager Chris Hughton explained.

'I am absolutely delighted that Dale has agreed his new deal. I was confident once we secured promotion that he would stay with the club, as he really enjoys playing here. Dale has been brilliant ever since I arrived at the club. It was well documented last summer that he had a desire to play in the Premier League, which was understandable - but he put that to one side, has shown a great level of professionalism and was an integral part of the team which won promotion. He has been an absolute pleasure to work with, and he will be an important part of our squad next season - and most importantly, I am absolutely thrilled that Dale will now be able to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion.'

Having joined Brighton back in January 2014, he now has more than 100 appearances to his name with a return of 13 goals.

Speaking himself, Stephens said it was a no brainer for him to sign the deal given our success this year.

'I am happy to get it done and get it over the line. There have been some long negotiations, but it`s finally done and I am delighted. I came to this football club expecting to get promoted in the first few years. It`s taken a bit longer than I would`ve thought, but here we are as a Premier League side and I want to be a part of that and achieve things here. Once we found out that we were going to play our football in the Premier League next season, it wasn`t a case of me moving on as I realised I could achieve what I wanted to here, and I am very much looking forward to next season.'

Looking ahead to next year, he went on to say.

'We know it`s going to be tough, and I think the target next season will be to stay in the Premier League. We`ll all be looking forward to it and can`t wait to get started. I don`t think it will hit home properly until we do see the fixtures. I know it`s done and dusted and the season has finished, but when you see the games coming up that`s when you see we are a Premier League side. We`re going to enjoy it and it will be nice to get one of the big teams at home first up.'

'The parade will be brilliant; I expect it to be full of fans and the city will probably be going into shutdown for the afternoon. We can thank for the fans and everyone for last season and have a good day together.'
