Leeds Disappointment For Hughton

Leeds Disappointment For Hughton

Manager Chris Hughton has reflected on the 'fine margins' in the game as Brighton suffered a loss to Leeds United at the weekend.

Travelling to Elland Road to face of against Garry Monk's in form side, it was certainly a tough encounter against the hosts but in terms of statistics we had the same number of efforts on goal and we had one additional effort off target.

However, they scored with two of their three efforts between the posts and took the two nil win.

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference, there was clearly disappointment for Hughton but he knew there wasn't an awful lot in the game, they just took their chances whereas we weren't quite as lucky across the 90 minutes.

'It was always going to be a tight game. We came through a first-half period where I thought they were better than us, but without creating too many chances. I knew that the game would open up in that second-half and I thought we were better than in that first-half period. They had three shots on target, so did we and they scored two goals.'

Hughton went on to say about the differences in the game.

'It`s just about those moments, particularly with that first goal. The second was more of a fortunate one, but the first one breaks that deadlock, gives them a bit of a lift and forces us to open up a bit more. The first goal was disappointing, but we were very much in the game at that moment and we had some good chances with Anthony Knockaert and Glenn Murray. It`s just the fine margins that went their way.'

Building on his comments of how we improved after the break, Hughton did know some of our attacking intent was down to the introduction of both Solly March and Chuba Akpom but again it's another example of just how competitive the Championship is this year.

'I thought once we made the changes, it gave us a little bit more pace and endeavour up front. I thought it did work, but you`ve got to have that bit of quality at the end and score and unfortunately we weren`t able to. Every game is tough and if you`re looking at teams that are what you`d regard as the bigger clubs, we`ve still got to go to Villa and Norwich and they`re very tough.'

Hughton ended by saying.

'But I`d expect every game to be like that because every team is fighting for something. Whether that`s to stay out of the bottom three or to get into the play-off positions. I don`t expect any easy games.'
