Fair Point For Hughton

Fair Point For Hughton

Manager Chris Hughton has said he felt it was a fair point against Sheffield Wednesday last night, and Bruno also gave his thoughts following the game.

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference, Hughton explained that he felt that neither side had really deserved or done enough to gain the three points on offer on the evening, so a point a piece was a fair return.

'Neither team deserved to win and neither deserved to lose. To come here and get a draw was a good result. We looked secure at the back but we are disappointed that we didn't show what we can do when we break on the counter, or in the final third. We knew what it would take to win the game and we came to win, because we sensed it was a good opportunity, but we just needed to show that little bit more intensity more often in that final third to break them down. They're a good side, who are in good form and it was going to take something special to break the deadlock, but I think overall probably both sides will be happy with the draw.'

The gaffer went on to say that with competition so good in the camp at the moment, he did have a tough decision to make when it came to the starting eleven on the day, but that's a problem he wants for every game.

Of course Inigo Calderon came in for his first start of the Championship season, and we went back to a 442 as well.

'We wanted to play two upfront. When you play two up top, it's sometimes very difficult to play two out and out wingers away from home in Jamie and Solly. I felt I needed a more defensive player on one of the flanks. Considering he hasn`t played a lot of football, he did ever so well. These are always tough decisions, but what we have got at the moment is a competitive squad. I hope that remains the case.'

As for Bruno, he was largely on board with it being a fair point on the night, but whilst crediting the togetherness of the side so far this year, he admitted there was disappointment to see us make it three draws on the spin.

'What we have always said is that we treat every game as it comes since the season started. The most important thing is that the confidence is really high in the squad at this moment in time. We have to improve in a number of areas, because three draws in a row is not good but the performances have been excellent. As a team, we always try to be organised and disciplined. I don`t know how many words I can use to describe this team, but everyone is doing a great job. That includes the gaffer and his staff, who are working very well together.'

With Calderon coming back into the side for the game, Bruno went on to praise him because he knows it's been a difficult time for him sat on the sidelines and not involved in as many games as he would like or probably expect.

'His performance was really good and I`m happy for him. It was a tough game for him and he has been outside of the starting eleven for a long time. For him to come back into the team after so long is tough, especially when you are playing a strong team away from home. He`s always a very professional player, he trains very hard and aims to be ready whenever the gaffer needs him.'
