Hyypia - We Didn't Deserve Anything
Manager Sami Hyypia has said that he felt Brighton didn't deserve a thing from our game against Birmingham.
A one nil defeat left few positives for the gaffer but plenty of negatives and he wasn't exactly shy about saying that post game when speaking to the Official Site.
'There were not a lot of positives to take out of the game. I didn't like what I saw, but I know that we are a much better side than we showed. I'm disappointed with our performance on the ball. I don't know whether it was nervousness, but we couldn't get our game going throughout the 90 minutes.'
Hyypia goes on to say that it's vitally important to start games brightly and well and we simply didn't do that on Saturday, and with us starting so slowly it gave them every opportunity to put us under pressure early.
'Maybe one thing we could take from the game was that we defended okay and were prepared to fight with them, it's important that we keep that going - but we need to match our opponents in this area and then use our quality on the ball to create chances and score goals.'
One positive he could take from the game was the debut of Joao Teixeira who came off the bench in the final 30, describing him as a 'very good player on the ball' so he's looking for good things from him now he's with us on loan, and he knows he'll only get better with training as he didn't even train with the lads yesterday so it's all still very fresh and unfamiliar and probably 'strange' for him, but that will come.
Goalkeeper David Stockdale said he felt we were unfortunate in the game, and although granted we can play a lot better, he feels there's still a lot to be upbeat about.
'Yes I'm standing here saying the same thing but we were pretty unlucky with the goal. You look back and think we've lost again and although we didn't dominate like we did against Sheffield Wednesday, I still felt we deserved something out of the game.'
Stockdale goes on to say that having watched the game back, he feels the referee could've interrupted play for their goal because he believes Aaron Hughes got 'taken out' in the build up.
