Brighton v Derby (Preview)

Brighton's ambitions of making it into the Premier League were retained by a dramatic final day Championship win to set up this play off semi final play off with Derby County.

This first leg takes place at the Amex tonight.

Victory was needed over Nottingham Forest, even that might not have been enough, but in dramatic fashion we managed it as Reading slipped up. We had to do this without Bruno and Dale Stephens due to injuries and they're expected to miss out again.

Once again Matt Upson will be the walking wounded but we'll patch him up to get him involved with Will Hoskins again available if Oscar wants him in the squad.

With third place already secured, and options to work with, Steve McClaren was able to make six chances for the side that drew with Leeds last weekend. Jake Buxton, Craig Bryson, George Thorne, Jamie Ward and Chris Martin should all return tonight though.

Derby have only Shaun Barker (knee), James O'Connor (thigh) and Paul Coutts (knee) missing out.

Albion are looking to make it third time luck as Derby beat us 1-0 at Pride Park in January adding to the 2-1 win at the Amex back in August.

The favourites, not just because they finished third and we only just managed to sneak into the play offs in sixth, will be Derby because they're in top form but how often does the side that just make it into the play offs go all the way, with third place usually missing out.

Nothing, unless either side suffers a heavy defeat, is likely to be won or lost tonight but taking an advantage to Derby would be very nice if we could.
