Play Off Pressure Is Nicer - Stephens

Play Off Pressure Is Nicer - Stephens

Dale Stephens has celebrated his opening goal, albeit not a winning one, against Blackpool last night by talking about how much nicer the pressure of being in a play off battle is, when compared to his previous relegation battle experience from his time at Charlton.

Speaking to the Official Site following the one all draw, Stephens explained that this is what players want to be involved in and he does feel this season it's going to go down to the wire and the very last game given how tightly packed a number of teams are for that final play off place.

'This is what you want to be doing, fighting for promotion. We're looking forward to the next few games and trying to get maximum points. I think it's going to go to the last day. Everyone is slipping up and taking points off each other. Hopefully with a bit of consistency between now and the end and that'll be enough.'

Referencing the game against Blackpool more closely, he does go on to admit that it's key that we start our remaining fixtures brightly, and with a good tempo, playing our own game and dictating the pace on others and then carry that through for the entire 90 minutes, which was obviously something we didn't do last night.

Next up is Yeovil and they are now mathematically down, so maybe that's something we can capitalise on and then we can set the pace for the others as they will know they have to win to stay in the hunt - then it depends on what Reading do tonight.

As for his goal, he admits he'd have enjoyed it more had it proven to be the winner or had it been the first goal we scored on the night to take all three points, and like Oscar Garcia admitted, it was a missed opportunity for us - but a point is a point and despite the disappointment in the dressing room, ultimately it could cost us and be two dropped, or it could be a massive point for us that counts for a lot when the final curtain drops this season.
