FA Cup Target For Mackail-Smith
Fresh from another appearance for the development squad, as he looks to make a return from long term injury problems, Craig Mackail-Smith has targeted a possible return for Brighton in the FA cup later this month.
Mackail-Smith is already ticking the games off that he wants to play but has told the Argus today that he can't see himself 'being allowed' to play against Doncaster this weekend, even though he wants to be involved.
Leeds come after that, again the striker wants to play again as he's got a good record against them but thinks it'll be too soon so his next involvement is likely to be another development game against Bournemouth on Monday.
Hull, in the FA cup on February 17th, is his aim.
'I want to play on Saturday but I'm not allowed! There is another development game on Monday against Bournemouth, so I think I'll be involved in that.
'I would like to play against Leeds, because I score against them all the time but I don't think I'll be involved in that.
'It's just a case of doing bits and pieces, playing with the development team and then it will be down to the gaffer and physios to decided when the time is right.
'We've got four home games in a row, so it would be nice to nick into one of them. I enjoy the FA Cup and it's on TV, so it would be nice to get a return then.'
The striker managed 50 minutes on Monday in the 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace at Lancing but admitted his disappointment at not getting longer but knows he has to gradually work his way up before he can get 90 minutes.
Depending on how the upcoming development games go, and what reaction he has, then that FA cup game with Hull could be a realistic game for his return as Oscar will be looking to make some changes as he has in the cup so far.
