Unwanted Barnes Had To Go
Ashley Barnes time with Brighton ended last week with him finally securing a move to Burnley, with them chasing the striker since the summer having several bids rejected before a fee of around £750,000 proved enough to take him to Turf Moor.
His departure wasn't anything to do with money, but more security with him of the opinion that he felt 'unwanted' by Albion and didn't know if a new contract offer would come his way?
In his interview with the Argus today Barnes said that the only contract offer he'd had from Brighton was last summer during pre-season and that wasn't going to offer him the sort of security that he was after.
With a young family to support Burnley's three and a half year deal gave Barnes what he wanted, with him not unable to risk not bring offered anything by Albion at the end of the season and then being left as a free agent.
As I have a family of my own to support I can relate and do understand what Barnes was saying.
I don't for one minute think that Barnes would've been a free agent for long, even if Oscar didn't keep him, so I'm not sure that he had to leave the Amex but it's something that looks to have worked for all concerned.
