Spurs Striker Arrives On Loan

Brighton have secured the loan signing of 23 year old striker Jonathan Obika from Tottenham Hotspur.

He joins us on a 93 day loan from Spurs, and the paperwork has gone through in plenty of time for him to be in contention for his debut this weekend in the game against Birmingham City at the Amex.

Speaking to the Official Site after the news was announced, manager Oscar Garcia explained that he wanted to bring in some cover for the forward positions this window with Craig and Will continuing their comebacks from injury, and he wanted to provide extra competition to Leo and Ash, so he's delighted to have been able to bring in Obika as he's a player that he's kept his eye on for a while.

'Jonathan is someone we have been aware of for some time, because Nathan has worked closely with him in the past at Yeovil and Charlton. It is known that we tried to bring him earlier in the season, but we were not able to due to an injury, so we are pleased to have him here now.'

Obika will replace Leroy Lita in the match day squad given he has now returned to Swansea.

Obika has been capped at England levels U19 and U20, and scored six goals in an U21 friendly for Spurs against Charlton earlier this week which finished 10-6.

His previous league appearance is mostly during considerable time out on loan, he has been at Yeovil on a number of occasions, Millwall, Crystal Palace, Peterborough, Swindon and Charlton and he has made four appearances for Spurs but not in the league campaign.

So far in his career he has made 65 starts in all competitions, and a further 50 appearances from the bench. In that time he has scored 24 goals.
