Oscar Garcia poised to take Albion hotseat

Ex-Barcelona midfielder Oscar Garcia is due to be announced as Albion's interim boss, claim Sky Sports.

The 40-year-old has been rumoured to be a leading contender for the now vacant post for some time, but it looks to have finally materialised, with reputable Spanish football expert Guillem Balague breaking the news of his imminent appointment via Twitter this morning.

Ex-manager Gus Poyet was relieved of his duties on Sunday night to bring to an end a 3-and-a-half year reign, with the club carrying out a lengthy internal investigation following alleged multiple breaches of contract.

The Uruguayan claimed to have learned of his sacking whilst fulfilling punditry duties live on BBC, and went onto confirm he will be exercising his right to appeal. None the less, Albion have pressed on with recruiting a new boss and are set to announce Oscar's arrival in due course.

A former player with La Liga giants Barcelona, as well as Valencia, Espanyol and Lleida, Oscar cut his teeth in coaching under Dutch legend Johan Cruyff as assistant of Catalonia's national team in 2009, before becoming Barcelona youth coach in 2010.

After two successful years of coaching at the Catalan club's esteemed La Masia academy, he took up his first full managerial role with Israeli top flight side Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2012, and led them to their first league title in 10 years, winning the division by 10 points.

News emerged this morning via Maccabi's official website that Oscar's assistant coach Ruben Martinez and head fitness coach Juan Torrijo Navaro will be leaving the club to join Oscar in his new job.
