'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martin Perry receives top honour

Martin Perry, Albion's current executive director and former CEO, landed the honour of 'Outstanding Brightonian' at the recent Brighton & Hove Business awards.

Following 16 years association with the club, working tirelessly behind the scenes to help secure permission for the Seagulls' long-awaited new home at Falmer, and then oversee its successful construction - I'm not sure a single Albion fan would begrudge Perry this award.

He also proved vital in acquiring more recent approval for the club's new training facilities in Lancing, before eventually stepping down from his CEO position in 2012 to take up a role on the board of directors.

Perry told the official site, "I had absolutely no idea that I was up for the Outstanding Brightonian award this year; it was a complete surprise but I am delighted to receive this award in recognition of my time with the Albion.

"But I accept this award on behalf of a lot of people. We have had an exceptional group of people working together throughout the years to deliver the stadium, which includes many club staff, directors, chairman and of course our very loyal supporters."

The American Express Community Stadium also scooped the award of 'Best Place to Visit', to which Perry added, "It was also a privilege to receive the award for the American Express Community Stadium which was voted the Best Place to Visit in Brighton.

"It's been an extraordinarily long road to get to where we are today but that means there is also a great sense of achievement for myself and everyone who helped to ensure the stadium was built and is now an established venue in the south coast of England."
