Poyet makes two changes to the side that drew with Blackburn in midweek, as David Lopez and Andrea Orlandi return to the starting XI.
The attacking midfield duo come in for Vicente - who drops to the bench - and the injured Will Hoskins. Leo Ulloa leads the line once again, with Craig Mackail-Smith a surprise absentee from the 18.
There are two places on the bench, however, for young pair Jake Forster-Caskey, and George Barker - neither of whom have featured for the first team this campaign, and may well get a chance to contribute tonight.
Matt Upson and Adam El-Abd continue at centre-half despite the return to fitness of captain Gordon Greer. Ex-Albion winger Craig Noone starts for Cardiff.
Line-ups in full:
Cardiff City: Marshall (GK), Connolly, Taylor, Hudson, Turner; Whittingham, Gunnarsson, Smith, Noone; Bellamy, Campbell.
Subs: Lewis, McNaughton, Cowie, Conway, Kim, Mason, Helguson.
Brighton & Hove Albion: Kuszczak, Bruno, El-Abd, Upson, Bridge; Bridcutt, Hammond, Orlandi; David, Buckley, Ulloa.
Subs: Ankergren (GK), Calderon, Dicker, Vicente, Lua-Lua, Forster-Caskey, Barker.
