Albion snap up Icelandic prospect

Albion have today added to their development squad by signing Icelandic under-19 international Emil Asmundsson.

A holding midfielder, Asmundsson arrives at the Amex from Icelandic club Fylkir, penning a two-and-a-half year development contract. The 18-year-old will initially link up with the youth team.

Asmundsson, identified by the club's ever-improving recruitment system, told seagulls.co.uk, "It means a lot to me to be joining Albion, as it is a big chance at a big club. The atmosphere here is great and the club is really progressing.

"Compared to the football in Iceland it is a better level so this is a big step for me and I'm looking forward to the challenge."

He follows Latvian defender Vitalijs Maksimenko in signing a longer-than-usual contract for the Seagulls' development squad, as the club look to nurture talent from abroad.
