Seagulls move for Latvian prospect

Albion are close to capturing the signature of young Latvian international Vitalijs Maksimenko, according to Sky Sports.

A deal has reportedly been agreed with Skonto Riga, where the 22-year-old won the Player of the Season award for the Latvian side in the 2011/12 campaign.

Predominantly a left-sided player, Maksimenko has drawn plenty of interest in recent months, and Poyet looks to have beaten off competition from higher-ranked clubs for his signature.

Sky Sports believe the move is likely to be completed over the next couple of days.
