Blackburn game off

This afternoon's Championship clash with Blackburn has been rained off.

A waterlogged pitch at Ewood Park led to a fairly straight forward decision to postpone the match - and at the time of writing it remains the only Championship fixture to fall victim to the weather.

Paul Barber, Albion' CEO, told the official site, "We really appreciate our fans' great loyalty and fantastic support for the club just three days before Christmas. As a token of our gratitude we would like to offer fans who bought a Blackburn ticket a bite to eat and a drink on us at a future home game.

"We're very sorry that so many fans made such a long journey only to suffer from the late but unavoidable postponement of the game. Unfortunately, we weren't aware of a pitch inspection until very late in the morning. It took place at 12.30 - once many of us had already arrived in the north-west.

"As soon as we were aware of the referee's decision to postpone the match we made the announcement to inform our travelling supporters as quickly as possible. We thank everyone for making the huge effort and hope everyone has a safe journey home. We wish you everyone a Merry Christmas."
