Poyet: Hoskins' future is in his hands
Gus Poyet has issued a message to Will Hoskins that a place in the first team is up for grabs if the outcast striker is good enough to take it.
The injury-plagued 26-year-old - who returned to training this week after recovering from a broken foot - is unlikely to make the squad for this weekend's Championship clash with Middlesbrough.
However, Poyet says the door remains open for Hoskins to earn a place in the first team squad - despite opting to join Sheffield United on loan in the second half of last season, amidst doubt surrounding his Albion future.
Poyet told the Argus, "There is nothing for or against. He is under contract and it depends on a lot of options.
"He left last January, and never played for us again.
"It depends on him now, not on me. It is not in my hands, it's in his hands.
"It depends if he is good enough to perform. If you can do better than someone else, you can play."
