International watch: El-Abd solid on Egypt return

Adam El-Abd produced a resolute second half display on his return for Egypt, as he earned his second cap for the Pharaohs in a World Cup qualifier.

The Brighton-born defender was introduced at the interval after a productive first half had seen Egypt saunter into a 3-0 lead over the Congo - and El-Abd helped preserve that lead with an accomplished performance at centre-half, making a number of important blocks and interceptions.

Pharaohs boss Bob Bradley was said to have been pleased with what he saw from the 28-year-old, and with another WC qualifier due to take place against Tunisia in Dubai on Tuesday, El-Abd is likely to get further chances to stake a claim for a long-term place in the near future.

Elsewhere, Albion keeper Tomasz Kuszczak was an unused sub during Poland's friendly with South Africa, but may still feature in their World Cup qualifier with England in Warsaw next week. Craig Mackail-Smith and Andrew Crofts weren't available for selection for Scotland and Wales respectively due to injury.
